California’s IGNITE have been absent from the recording industry for some time now. It has passed six years between the new record ”Our Darkest Days” and the previous full-length album "A Place Called Home". IGNITE has often been described as a melodic hardcore-band, or sometimes punk-hardcore. Since I find the hardcore-part of the music close to absent I would prefer to describe IGNITE’s music as fast-paced melodic punk with some hardcore influences. The sound is bright, positive and has a lot of energy that makes it almost impossible to stand still, you must at least indicate the beat with a foot or a hand. The lyrics are dealing with social issues and politics in an intelligent, thoughtful yet straightforward way. It is liberating to hear such sharp words from a band in this genre, the anger is somewhat constructive and aimed at something a grown man should be angry about. When you add the impressive vocals of Zoli Teglas to this energetic music and great lyrics there is a great likelihood that this will be a superb album. There are still some things on the record that perhaps would be better undone. The cover of U2’s “Sunday Bloody Sunday” was not good the first time IGNITE recorded it and it is certainly not better this time. The last acoustic track is pleasant and fills its place, but the hidden track is just beyond understanding to me. Still (even though it is not hardcore), this is a great album that brings mixed feelings of anger and happiness.
