Immolation are one of the true survivors in the death metal scene, having been around since the late 80s. About three years has passed since the release of their last album "Unholy Cult" but the wait will be proven worthwhile for every fan who have been eager to hear some new deadly hymns from their American veterans. Two words are enough to describe this album - controlled chaos. The nine songs on it are filled with quirky riffs, suggestive melodies, repetitive elements, well placed solos and the deep graveyard growling from Ross Dolan who once again proves himself being one of the most impressive front men in death metal today. Immolation is a band that rarely surprises its fans but they have yet to disappoint them as well. "Harnessing Ruin" is one of the finest death metal releases of 2005 and close to a must-have for every corpse digging metaller. Dark and ominous without crossing the boundaries of death metal, straight forward and crushing without becoming simplistic, technical and complex without excessive show-offs. Immolation is a band who have carved their own niche for more than 15 years now and they are still capable of playing the hell out of their younger competitors. This is the essence of death metal. Submit to darkness and let the fun of terror begin!
