REVIEW: Immortal - Damned In Black Osmose Productions, 2000
9/10
Immortal - Damned In Black - cover art They are really back in black! This is a more death metal like production in the sound anyway but still they manage to stay black metal, you can smell the Norwegian sound and style even though it's kind of a weak luring smell. This record is not as fast as ”Battles In The North” for an example, but still there are some fast parts. This album is more heavy and calm and we get to listen to all the creative riffs and most of all Horgh's fantastic drums through the album. Some other great things in this album are the bass on the third track ”Against The Tide (In The Arctic World)” but it´s not the only time that those unbelievable guys invite us to a musical show. But if you really listen some times it's not even that complicated so I think it´s the feeling of it all that makes this album so great. This time the vocals are not that dreadful as before, but what a feeling that manage to describe every word's meaning and feeling, bringing us into a world that is darker than black. As they themselves say: ”Where the sun forever vanished, Once a world was ever splended, That took my soul”… And this album sure took my soul!
