Extreme death / grind from the US... Well,
there is nothing wrong with death metal and there is certainly nothing wrong
with Carcass. There isn't anything ultimately wrong with the American band
Impaled either. They are very good musicians and this album is technically and
soundwise without any major flaws. The thing that makes them less interesting
is that they do not offer anything even remotely new to the metal scene. They
are mostly recycling classic metal riffs throughout these ten tracks and they
even recycle their own riffs a little too much. There are three things that
prevents them from falling into the run of the mill pile. First we have the
vocals which are fairly well done, ranging from deep under water growls to
something that sounds more like melodeath vocals. The second is that they are
very keen on using guitar solos, something that is not very common in their
genre and therefore likely to raise some attention from the fans. The guitar
solos themselves are not that exceptional but they add variety to the music
which is very important. The third thing that makes them stand out is that
they manage to keep up the intensity throughout the whole album, a mission
that is not impossible but at least difficult to accomplish. A solid,
professional release that should be able to please some death / grind fans but
it doesn't excite me that much unfortunately. The album title doesn't do
much either, what is a medical world??? Stand-out tracks: "We Belong Dead",
"To Die For".
