REVIEW: Imperial Sodomy - Demolished Diamond Productions, 2004
6.5/10
Imperial Sodomy - Demolished - cover art The history of the French death metal band Imperial Sodomy began in 1997 when bassist Disaster formed a side project. "Demolished" is the band's second full-length album and it has everything a death metal fan has ever wanted - unearthly vocals ranging from Cephalic Carnage screams to ultra-guttural, blastbeats and a great deal of intense and technical guitarwork. Is it original? Does it sound fresh and new? No, it certainly doesn't but it is well performed and carefully crafted, combining elements from genre defining giants like Vader, Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel. The production is not perfect but it all comes down to the budget I believe and the music does not suffer much at all from the minor flaws that can be noticed. The French brutal death metal scene is one of the most vibrant ones in the world right now and if this is your cup of tea you should get to know Imperial Sodomy. A more powerful production should be able to lift the band to the next level. We have heard it before but if you don't think that's a negative remark be my guest and buy their album.
