REVIEW: In Flames - The Quiet Place (promo) Nuclear Blast, 2004
4/10
In Flames - The Quiet Place (promo) - cover art Since this is no more than a teaser promo for the new In Flames album, 'Soundtrack to Your Escape', this review isn't going to be too long, just an idea of the direction in which In Flames is headed. These three songs, quite frankly, are completely mediocre. The first 'single' 'The Quiet Place' starts with keyboards and soon makes it apparent that In Flames have stopped using melodic guitars and now allow a clean singing, out-of-tune, weak voiced Anders free reign on the music. 'Borders and Shading' has Anders whining like Jonathan Davis, with a catchy chorus and chuggy guitars, the format all three songs follow. Nu-metal flavoured guitars, cleanly sung verses and catchy chorus', nary a tasty lead of times past in sight. The new album, if this is any indication, will be a glorified nu-metal album which is even worse than 'Reroute to Remain'. There is a strong techno and rap-metal influence to be heard here, and it sounds terrible. The mighty have fallen.
