REVIEW: In Peccatvm - Antília (EP) Self-financed, 2002
5.5/10
In Peccatvm - Antília (EP) - cover art In Peccatvm is a band from the Azores which is a group of islands located far off the coast of Portugal. Since the islands are so far from the coastline the people living there have developed a culture of their own different to that in Portugal and this is the cultural heritage which In Peccatvm wish to honor through their music. The band is three men strong but this mini album also features a string ensemble performing the nice instrumental intro track "Seotem Aguae". It is not easy to tell you what kind of music In Peccatvm plays but it is somewhere inbetween doom metal and soft gothic rock. There is not a lot of heavy aggressive riffing here but the music is more laid-back and built up on rhythm waves. The album is a very harmonic and coherent one musically but unfortunately it is a little too bleak and plain for my taste. The vocals are mostly spoken or half-sung and sometimes they are on the verge of growling. If you are into soft atmospheric doom metal you may like this but I wish for some more exciting music next time. They have however done something new that I doubt has been heard on any metal album before namely playing the azorean guitar. I don't know how it is different from the classical guitar but it is still something fresh and I hope that this band can develop further in the future.
