REVIEW: Inbreed - Bastards Forest Self-financed, 1999
6.5/10
Inbreed - Bastards Forest - cover art Inbreed was formed in Salado, Texas, under the name Hades Gates in 1995 but since everyone expected them to play death metal they changed their name to the current one. Inbreed plays thrash metal in the old 80's way, inspired by bands like Testament, Exodus and Slayer. Even though there are some minor modern metal influences their sound is clearly rooted in the old thrash metal movement. They have also adapted the dark lyrics as you probably realize by yourself when looking at the song titles. This album is fast, furious and aggressive and especially the tracks "Claws Of The Devil" and "Suicide Note In Blood" will make you want to listen to this album more than just once. If you are looking for quality old-school thrash metal bands you should check out Inbreed. They are not quite on the same level as Testament or Exodus but are there many bands like that around today? The only thing I don't enjoy that much on this album is the vocals which tend to shift from amazing to rather poor. Anyway, there are lots of heavy thrash metal riffs to enjoy here, that's one thing for sure.
