REVIEW: Infliction - The Faint Smell Of Suicide Voice Of Life Records, 2002
7/10
Infliction - The Faint Smell Of Suicide - cover art I had my axe out after the initial sample on this one, which features Danny Torrance from "The Shining" talking to that pesky and imaginary Tony. Infliction, a 6-piece Italian band, play a style of metal not unlike later At The Gates, with ample variety in all departments. 7 years as a band has allowed them to noticeably sharpen their skills, which come through well in the riffing of "Soul Quake Bizarre" and the syncopated percussion of "As Coward Meets Coward". Vocalist I.R. does well to hide his identity, as the James Hetfield-like yammering on "A Credit to Dementia" might compel people to attack him. This is not a bad album overall, but also not an amazing one. Musical purgatory, I suppose. [Editor's comment: Guest vocals on this album were done by Goth Gorgon and Draakh Kimera from Mörk Gryning, Björn Goosses from Night In Gales (who is the new vocalist of the band as of January 2003) and Aphazel from Ancient.]
