Well, there are things about this album that are great and there is one thing about this album that I abhor. Starting off with the good, “The Silencer” reminds me a lot of bands like At the Gates and The Haunted, Fast, Thrashy, Melodic Death. The majority of this album is very well played and the members of the band owe a lot to the production as it is great. Production aside you can tell that the band members know their respective instruments and you can also tell that this album was a long time coming (apparently 2 years of writing and composing) and I commend the band on the mood that this release evokes. The subtle keyboard melodies played behind the metal music is performed quite well and adds a desirable quality to “The Silencer”. The guitarists play some great riffs and are obviously skilled musicians who desire this album and band to be great, they shine on every song on the album. The bassist also lends his talents throughout the album and while he is not the most amazing bassist I have heard he does have skill, however I don’t believe that it is executed properly on this album. The drummer is obviously a competent musician and he also adds a degree of listening appeal to the album as it seems he is quite talented .
Now to get to what I abhor, the vocalist has a perfectly good death/thrash metal voice that he uses through some of the album, however for the rest of the album he uses this ridiculously poor heavy metal singing voice that reduces any interest that I may have had in the disc by ten fold. Call it personal preference but I just cannot stand this particular facet of this album and every time I start to get into the music there it is again rearing it’s ugly head. My advice to the band, do not get rid of the singer but have him growl, honestly the singing is horrendous and ruins the intensity of any song that it inhabits (which is all of them), I think that this band has extreme potential, and this CD definitely didn’t allow them to reach it. I would recommend this album to any fan of traditional Heavy Metal and Melodic Death, I am sure you will enjoy it far more than I did.
