REVIEW: Initial Prayer - The Last Men In Europe Corrosive Growth Industries, 2005
8/10
Initial Prayer - The Last Men In Europe - cover art From the start of “White Waters”, Initial Prayer pulls you down deep. The Industrial heaviness sets in, and what you experience is some excellent doom. I’ve always enjoyed Industrial music, because you can layer in so many different sounds, noises, samples, and instruments. Then if layered properly, Industrial can be the most dynamic genre in music. Initial Prayer has some really strong ideas with their song structures. Never overly technical, but rhythmic enough to make you want to listen again. They set a certain vibe in each song, while moving through a constant mood, which can drag in areas. There’s a definite feel to this album, and you only let yourself get pulled into their soundscapes. Whether it’s because of some simple orchestrated sound, or the repetitive guitar/drum loops. It grew on me more and more after a few listens. “In Defence” stood out right off the start, but there are a few more cool tunes on “The Last Men in Europe”. Even the feel of Asian Dub Foundation is present in “We Serve”. Worth a listen if your into the Swans and the like.
