This is the second release of Inner Wish, who were founded in 1995 and are among the top Power Metal bands. They are mainly influenced by two trends. The first one is the classic 80s bands like Accept (especially at guitars), Riot, Jag Panzer etc. The second one is a mixture of the 80s American Power with Progressive, with bands like Queensrÿche and Crimson Glory. While here, like the majority of the Power Metal bands, the "ghost" of Iron Maiden is omnipresent.
Even by the first notes of the CD the listener (especially the Death Metal fan) would be impressed by the very clear "heroic" vocals of Babis Alexandropoulos, who seems to have ample vocal abilities, which are displayed in a modest way without "crones" and other unnecessary "ornaments" that usually Power Metal singers demonstrate.
However a band of this kind couldn't decently stand without the proper, qualitative skilled musicians. And first of all the guitarists, Thimios Krikos and Manolis Tsigos do much and nice work. I can imagine the drummer, Terry Moros, like Nicko McBrain, to strike at high spirits all the time, the drum set giving the background supporting sound, assisted by the bassist Antonis Mazarakis. This combination results in a heavy solid and full sound, sometimes like galloping horses. The whole effort is enhanced a great deal by the very clear production.
"Silent Faces" could generally be split in two parts following the two main aforementioned trends. The first 5 songs are faster and more Epic, Power and Heavy style, while the speed slows down (maybe this is a disadvantage) at the next 5 songs, which are more progressive. Although there are no unskillful tracks in these CD, however there are some whose "strong personality" distinguishes like: "If I Could Turn Back Time", "Hold On" and "Realms Of Tomorrow", but this is also a subjective matter. A detail, which is indicative of the band’s maturity, is that lyrics (luckily) don't refer to magic swords, demons and wizards, heroic battles and other similar issues that most of the Power Metal bands take up with.
I don't know whether Innerwish will ever become famous, but they are consistent to what they play. If they make some innovations and escape from the classic moulds and clichés, which make them sound boring sometimes, they will become a super band. Although I'm not the biggest power metal fan, I am enraptured by their straightforward vivid music. For those, especially classic and power metal fans worldwide, who haven't yet discovered them, Innerwish are highly recommended.
