REVIEW: Inrage - Built To Destroy Scarlet Records, 2002
7/10
Inrage - Built To Destroy - cover art The horde of Swedish death / thrash metal bands is quickly growing larger and larger and so is the number of Swedish bands signed to the Italian company Scarlet Records. Inrage, the latest addition, was born out of the ashes of the band Lost Souls in the year 2000. Lost Souls released two albums, one on Roadrunner Records and one on Nuclear Blast, before splitting up for one reason or another. Inrage is very aptly named since their debut album contains nothing but rage and fury, except perhaps for a decent amount of well executed riffs that smells strongly of 80's Bay Area thrash with a nod towards more commercial contemporary metal. This album could perhaps have been one of the most interesting metal releases of the year if it hadn't been for the fact that it has already been done plenty of times before. Armed with simple yet efficient riffs, powerful vocals and a thick sound courtesy of the respectable Studio Underground these Swedes still display a competent edge and will certainly appeal to fans of bands like Darkane, Terror 2000 and Soilwork. The cover art was also conceived by the former keyboard player of Soilwork, Carlos del Olmo Holmberg. Inrage offer nothing new but "Built To Destroy" is a nice album with fully enjoyable neo-thrash from start to end. Stand-out tracks: "Gift To Restore".
