Inside is a young Italian band that was formed in the winter of 2000 by musicians from local bands like Regnum Irae, Ossyan and Five Magics in the Caserta area. This three track demo is a musically very rich recording with influences from many different genres. There are touches of classical music, technical death metal and progressive power metal, all of it fused together in order to create something of their own. At times they remind me very much of the Swedish band Skyfire, at other times Bal Sagoth just to make way for a few Rhapsody moments. Does it sound chaotic? Well, sometimes it really is and sometimes a little bit too chaotic for their own good. There are both female and male vocals and we get to hear everything from death growls to female power vocals and shouts. It is difficult to decide where I would want this young band to go in the future. One way would be to write more straightforward and structured songs but that would kind of spoil the whole concept they have built so far. The other way would be to continue down the progressive path but try to make the music more fluent and make it follow a red line. I think the vocals (both male and female) are a weakness to Inside right now but perhaps a larger budget in the studio could help. If you enjoy complex and progressive metal you should at least check out this Italian band because they are not your everyday musical experience.
