REVIEW: Into The Hole - Do You Want To Play With Me? Self-financed, 2006
7.5/10
Into The Hole - Do You Want To Play With Me? - cover art This is actually a best-of/compilation of the short discography by Into The Hole, and almost anything the band had recorded between 1999 to 2004 was pressed on this 25 minutes Extended Play CD, now re-issued by the band's new and first label – Italian Alkemist Fanatix.

Regardless of the band's main man's – Alessandro Volpi – lame introduction sheet and terrible broken English, the music itself, on this rather short exhibition of ability and talent – is another story altogether…

"Into the hole/Do you want to play with me?" is a mixture of styles, some of which strange to one another by definition, but put together in the right context, interwoven and masterfully glued, this becomes a truly enjoyable excursion through Post-Punk, Darkwave, EBM, Industrial Metal and plain good ol' Rock/Post-Rock/Death-Rock (think Samhain, The Cramps, some Devil Doll and The Misfits to name a few), packaged in a solid offering of good music, as simple as that…

This EP is a bastard child of crazy acts such as "If I die, I die" – era Virgin Prunes coupled with the energetic guitar-driven power and dynamics of Post-Punk rockers Minimal Compact, and the vibe and sound of Rob Zombie's Industrial/Post-Thrash side-project (or what Die Krupps did in their "Metallic" era)… It sounds a bit too much of an eclectic, chaotic jigsaw, I know, but hey, what can I do? These are the facts, and if we expect the musician(s) here to fail at least to some extent (as you can hardly expect anyone to execute perfectly all styles and forms of music), one can only be surprised how well this act handles everything here; I don't really care whether those are genuine drums or programmed ones, same goes for the extremely heavy parts of bass, or schizophrenic ever changing vocals (in pitch, style and power) being natural or filtered/harmonized or whatever… The main thing is that everything here is top notch in execution, dynamics and passion, and although the act takes its inspiration from many a genre, old or new, the outcome it neither dull nor boring, but a new and refreshing sound echoing some older ones, reflecting roots and elements but never neglecting own, unique identity. Add to that a perfect crystal-clear production and a nice packaging and you've got yourself a treat. For any fan of New-Wave, EBM, Post-Punk, Death-Rock and anything else Post, New, Pseudo, Semi and Neo… Forget about classifications here; just listen to this damn good album. Comes as highly recommended.
