REVIEW: Into The Madness - demo Self-financed, 2003
7/10
Into The Madness - demo - cover art Into The Madness is the solo project from a young Finnish man named J. Metsälä who started writing black metal music on his own back in 1995 when he was only 14 years old. This is just one of many solo projects of this man who is also involved in bands like Five Pointed Star and With Death together with musicians from well-known bands like Thy Serpent, Impaled Nazarene and Shape Of Despair. Mr. Metsälä is obviously an extremely productive and creative individual. This is, believe it or not, actually one of the most entertaining and unusual demos that I have had the pleasure of listening to during my very time consuming career as a reviewer. While there are plenty of chugga-chugga metal riffs and black metal influenced vocals in these four tracks what makes it special is the massive use of electronics to create somewhat of a horror techno environment. Disco for the devil might be a good summary of this demo. It all reminds me a little of a British band called Midnight Configuration but this is obviously a lot heavier because of the metal roots. Perfect music for a Halloween disco or a horror story and one of the most interesting demos I've heard in some time now.
