REVIEW: Inward Sanctum - Secret Oceans Sorcery Self-financed, 2004
8/10
Inward Sanctum - Secret Oceans Sorcery - cover art "Inward Sanctum" and "Northern Breeze" consist of 2 musicians: Kris (guitars, vocals) and Vangelis (guitars, bass, vocals, keyboards) (CC: Who plays the drums?). The promos were recorded at "Inward Sanctum's Home Studio", while the production was done by Sakis and it is really perfect. The reason for the existence of two different bands by only 2 persons is that they express two different music pathways. The former is more death - thrash, while the latter more black metal oriented. Both bands are remarkable and this is enhanced by the fact that these 2 members have to play more than one instruments. As musicians they are very efficient both as pure instrument players and also as composers. Personally I find "Inward Sanctum" very striking and inspired as a band name. The band was formed in fall 1997 as a 5 member band. They release their first demo "Hus i kai is hun epelefsi" in late 1999. Although the band kept working on music, it didn't stay practically active due to several bad circumstances. The comeback of Kris and Vangelis is the result of hard working and great patience.

The Promo begins with the intro "Voices Under The Sea". The guitar is played with fiddlestick and I think this is rather a drawback because it sounds unstrung. Personally I think it could have been omitted because it predisposes the listener a bit negative for the next song: "Secret Ocean's Sorcery", which is a real dynamite! High quality death - thrash influenced by the main Swedish bands of this kind, however with many personal elements. The very good guitars cut sharp as razorblades. I can't claim that the band prescribes "Oscars of originality", but the compositions are clever, quick, dynamic and direct that stick in the mind. A nice riff is contained in the repeated part of the outro. My mark is indicative since in order to be done a reliable statistics one should have a satisfactory number of sample, while here there is essentially only one track! On the other hand it is indicative of their potential as a band. We expect to listen to their forthcoming complete release. Both promos (of Inward Sanctum and Northern Breeze) are available for 5 Euros (postage include) from:
