This is the first album for this young Russian Black Metal performing horde. When I started the CD the two first songs playing made me think this is something to pay full attention to, but (these buts are everywhere) later the audial development would prove me wrong on that one. "In the Name of the Reversed Cross" and "The Chirs.t.slave" are probably the best songs from the album. They are powerful, with mighty guitars, very strong drums and solid vocals all creating some interesting, melodic, but still very aggressive Black Metal. But, until I started playing the cd with the ‘random’ option turned on I was very confused, because every time those two songs end I would stop paying attention to the music playing in the background. Then I tried this random or shuffle option and the results surprised me, I was listening only to the first two songs and after that I wasn’t attracted to the Cd at all. Those two mentioned songs lost a lot of their attraction with this method, although they are the best songs from the album in my opinion. So, my conclusion is that this is material with some potential, but again with lots of ordinary riffs, ideas and composing solutions that just make your interest and attention drift to something else. Iratus Dominus can be said to have something in common with bands from Dimmu Borgir to Arkhon Infaustus and 1349 or even Tsjuder, but without any keyboards and not matching the speed of the latter bands even by far. Also, the production is somewhat troubling and the fact that the album was recorded in a home studio throughout almost 8 months speaks more of the trouble and hard times they had then about the perfection they were after. Iratus Dominus deserve to be offered a hand in their career, but next time they must show something more mature.
