Ladies and Gentlemen: I give you a band that has never ever managed to disappoint me before - "Dance Of Death" is the latest creation of Iron Maiden, and it is, no matter what anyone might say, a very good album. My fav Maiden project, however, still remains the previous record, "Brave New World", wich reunited Dickinson with the boys in order to bring musical delight onto our tables once again. Bare in mind that this is a band that stayed true to its origins and gave its listeners musical pleasure throughout its entire activity. The return of the "Wickerman" himself was supposed to bring back the sound that all fans were missing, while critics all around the world were anticipating a change of style, bringing the Maiden sound closer to the Bruce Dickinson projects. This hasn't happened with "Brave New World", wich did change the style a bit, but it also improved the music A LOT. "Dance Of Death", however, in my opinion, is nowhere close to "Brave New World", in fact it shows the exact changes that were anticipated before the release of the "return album". The new record, although HAS kept the Maiden sound intact (those guitars are irreplaceable), it kind of moved closer to the sound of the projects Dickinson did in his "free time". I'm not saying that I don't enjoy those, but I wanted something as good as the previous release. I don't like "Dance Of Death" as much as I do the older creations and the new songs don't have the same stage impact as previous songs eighter, but I can forgive all that very easily (and I have - after all, there isn't much to complain about... this is a new Maiden record... and it's great). What I don't ever want to see in this band is radical change! They've had a great sound ever since the begining, and songs like "Aces High" for ex. have such a modern sound that they might as well have been written yesterday. Iron Maiden showed itself worthy of being considered the "best of the beast" in heavy metal, and they've managed to keep us hanging on over many years. Let's just hope that things don't ever start going in the nu-metal direction, and we'll be offered even better Maiden projects in the future. Right now we have "Dance Of Death", and we're more than satisfied.
