Being the first Iron Maiden album without Adrian Smith and
the first featuring the new guitarist Janick Gers (new to the band but he had
played on the first solo album from Bruce Dickinson before) this is also an
album that for many marks the first downfall of the world's most successful
heavy metal band. This is unfortunately partly true but this is still an album
that beats most of the competition. Iron Maiden at their low is far from being
bad. Steve Harris has always been the most important member of the band and I
believe that his presence saves this album from disaster. The instrumental
middle sections of the songs have always been what I have appreciated the most
when it comes to Iron Maiden and this is also the case with this album. The
vocals from Dickinson are not that impressive although he manages to do a
decent job. It is true that some of the worst Iron Maiden songs ever -
"Public Enema Number One", "Fates Warning" and "Bring Your Daughter..."
- can be found on this album but the rest of the songs are definitely good
enough to make this album worth
purchasing.
