REVIEW: Isegrim - Gloria Deo, Domino Inferi Massacre Records, 2001
6.5/10
Isegrim - Gloria Deo, Domino Inferi - cover art I'll start off this review and tell you bluntly what this mcd has so you can determine if you want to read any further. (Some may be too wimpy to handle this crap.) German band, corpse paint, electric razor sounding guitars, cool posing, upside down crosses, bullet belts, a dark artsy cover, old english fonts. The only thing they are missing are swords & axes. Care to still read on? OK.. anyway I got this album only because I heard they do a Destruction cover and I'm always a sucker to see bands do covers of my favorite bands. It starts off with 1 cool intro, 2 originals and one cover. So there really isn't much to it. "Angel with fire and sword" is another run of the mill black metal song that doesn't do much and "Hail Emperor Ceasar" starts off pretty good but after a while you get sick of the vocalist screaming "Ceasar" 600 times. Now as for the cover that is a different story. They Cover Destruction's "Bestial Invasion" and it isn't bad and played with fury and using the dark rasp vocals. I had to listen to it a few times before I wrote this to make sure if I liked it or not.. The only difference in their version is the solo and the vocal cues at the end. Yeah I know I'm being critical but you've got to be when a band does a cover like this. Overall though I hate to say it but the cover song saves this Mcd. because without it I'd end up storing it somewhere to collect dust. I recommend this with reservations though. Besides it's only a Mcd.
