This is a very young band, since they are together for just about a year now, or a little more only. Still, this is a very satisfying entrance to the scene, most bands can’t make it this far in their entire existence, not even in less than a year from forming. Although the band members are very young, judging from pictures, they have chosen to play Black Metal in a more old-school way. Here I can notice many different influences, but early Gothenburg sound from its second wave in 97-98 and bands like Gates of Ishtar, Satariel, Non Serviam are the first thing that popped to my mind when I played Iskald, mostly because of the general production and sound, but also melodies. Still, Slayer from its earlier days is the next thing to invoke, many guitar riffs point to that origin and perhaps a pinch of Dissection as well. Still, Iskald has only one guitar, on contrary to all aforementioned bands and that means it’s even harder to be reminiscent of mighty Gothenburg bands that are famous for their twin-guitar melodies. Northern Twilight consists of four songs and an intro and has no big difference between songs, they are all melodic yet heavy, mid tempo mostly with a strong voice commanding over nice guitar melodies. Everything else, non music, on this CD is also very well done, the CD itself is pro-duplicated, not CDr and the cover is pro-printed with a nice motive, but no folds, that would be one objection.
Iskald left a pretty strong impression on me, partly because they are a very young band and they already came up with such interesting material. I will definitely keep an eye on this band.
