REVIEW: Ivory Night - 7 - Dawn Of The Night Self-financed, 2004
7/10
Ivory Night - 7 - Dawn Of The Night - cover art There are few times I have found myself positively surprised by a self-financed release lately which made even more happy to find an exception in the pile of CDs expecting a ruthless review from the literal butcher himself. Ivory Night (not to be confused with the Canadian band Ivory Knight) hail from Kaiserslautern, Germany, a city I only know from soccer, and have been around since 1997 but in lack of a proper label contract they have now recorded a professional full-length album on their own. They apparently believe in their music enough to spend a lot of money on it and so do I. The songs are well written without unnecessary excesses in any direction, there are beautiful melodies, heavy riffs and on top of this the microphone is handled by one of the most impressive power metal vocalists I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. Not only does he has a wide range but he also has a very strong charisma and his presence is extremely powerful, adding a strong personal touch to the album. If you are a power metal fan I suggest you check out this band right away and if you like what you hear, order the CD from them, and make their investment well worth. In all honesty there is some filler material on this album but the majority is definitely good stuff. This is not promotion for a friend, these guys deserve attention, period.
