Jacopo Galli is an Italian musician who always dreamed of recording his own material and release it on cd. He was born in Pavia in the North of Italy in 1972 and has played in a few lesser known bands such as Bad Attidude and Inner Maze. Now, having completed a university degree and started working as an engineer, has has found the time to complete a full-length cd's worth of material on his own. The opening track, "Answer Me", sets the standard high and displays a wide range of impressive instrumental skills. It should be appreciated by fans of Dream Theater, Rush and Liquid Tension Experiment alike I think, balancing well between sharp metal riffs, high-speed technicality and crisp progressive rock experiments. To explain the diverse influences apparent on this recording it should perhaps be mentioned that some of Jacopo's favorite bands are Fates Warning, early Metallica, Megadeth, Angra, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Yngwie J. Malmsteen and Helloween. On a few occasions the songs tend to become a little bit too cheesy for my taste but my interest is kept throughout most of the album. I do have one thing to complain about though. I can certainly understand Jacopo's wish to do everything himself as he is an extremely skilled musician in all aspects but maybe next time he should consider to engage at least a vocalist to help him out. He does not really have a bad voice for singing but it doesn't do the rest of the music justice I'm afraid. Except for that "Timedrops" is a very nice recording that should please most fans of progressive music.
