The band has completely strayed from their brutal death origins for a more straight forward death metal band. Now, while this is a good thing because the vocals are perfectly clear and every word is perfectly audable, fans of the original sound may not take to their new style that well. With heavy promotion behind this release, including a rather cheesy music video for the song "Embedded", it seems that perhaps this release is a step in the right direction for the band.
One of the best things about this release is that it isn't a stereotypical death metal album. It has a feel of old school death metal to it, with technical guitar riffs that are rather brutal and definitely chaotic, and some very restrained drum work that compliments the strings perfectly. Songs such as "Altered From Catechization" and "Marytyrdom Unsealed" perfectly demonstrate this, and are simply sick. But the biggest change would be the vocals, as they are now no longer gutteral or high and uncomprehensable. They are still somewhat gutteral, but not deep enough to be, and are hands down some of the best vocals recorded for a death metal album.
But, while this release doesn't really sound like a Gorerotted release, it does still carry a sound similar to another band, which happens to be their label mates, Black Dahlia Murder. Luckily those elements are few and far apart, but are still there, such as a good majority of riffs on "Strings Of Hypocrisy". But other then that, the album is a step in the right direction for this band, as they found a new niche for themselves in the death metal world with "Genesis". It's a blistering album which, while the haunting interlude tracks "Upheavel" and "Blasphemy" slow it down for a few minutes, is still pretty damn impressive compared to their previous releases.
