"In The Library Of Horrific Events" is the second full length released by the British Noisecore/Death Metalcore band Johnny Truant. Produced by Adam Dutkiewicz, guitarist of Killswitch Engage and producer of albuns like All That Remains' "This Darkened Heart" and Unearth's "The Oncoming Storm", this album consists of 40 minutes of great music, distributed via 10 excellent tracks. The band's sound is unique and full of contrasts. Brutality here contrasts with some accessibilty, beautiful melodies and acoustic guitar quickly change into chaotic riffs and harsh vocals contrast with spoken words. Great! As I mentioned before, the band plays Noisecore/Death Metalcore. Imagine Everytime I Die mixed with Dillinger Escape Plan and with some death metal influences and you'll get Johnny Truant. Talking about the songs... they are all great. Full of good riffs, some good guitar leads, mostly screaming vocals (but sometimes more guttural or spoken) and brutal breakdowns. The breakdowns (I usually don't like breakdowns...) here are used very often but when they are used they place them perfectly.
Is is impossible to recommend a sinelg track, as they are all very good, but the weakest track here is maybe the first one, "I Love You Even Though You're A Zombie Now". About the instruments... the drum work here on the album is great, the drummer is awesome. The track's rhythms sometimes change drastically (and that is a good thing) and the sound of the drums is very good. The bass is audible sometimes and sounds cool together with the drums. The guitar is very good also. Here we got chaotic riffs, some melodies and some mellow stuff. The vocals are very good. Very aggressive vocals, throaty and screaming, they fit perfectly the music. Pros: Everything really. Cons: Nothing. Standout tracks: just pick a number from 2 to 10.
