REVIEW: Jorn - The Duke AFM Records, 2006
8/10
Jorn - The Duke - cover art The David Coverdale sound-alike strikes again. I'm sorry but it is still virtually impossible not to think about Whitesnake when listening to the works of Mr. Lande. It is not a bad thing though because I love the classic 'snake albums. The comparison does however lose ground when you leave the vocals behind and focus on the music instead. The instrumental background laid for Jorn's amazing vocal talents is much more fresh and modern sounding, heavier and faster at times but not abandoning the classic hard rock anthems and passionate love ballads. This is music for lovers but as I am rather single at the moment I may miss out on some of the impressions that others may experience while listening to "The Duke". A crystal clear and perfectly balanced production makes room for the entire group of impressive musicians who have worked with Jorn on this new solo album of his. Here we find several names that urges a bit of name-dropping such as Morty Black of TNT and Don Airey who has worked with genre giants such as Ozzy Osbourne and Rainbow. Laid-back and melodic hard rock rooted in the past but wrapped up in a modern, intense and powerful sounding package. Jorn Lande is turning out to become one of the few hard rock icons of the first decade of the 21st century and "The Duke" is a more than welcome treat for all his fans awaiting the next Masterplan album somewhere around January 2007. Stand-out tracks: "We Brought The Angels Down", "End Of Time".
