REVIEW: Joski - Chorus Casket Music, 2003
6/10
Joski - Chorus - cover art Joski is a heavy rock band that formed in London in May 2001 and it didn't take more than a month before they had played their first show. Success has come to these guys very fast and already in December they headlined an all-ages show visited by 800 people. Their debut single "Chorus" is now released through the native label Casket Music and it also contains a video, presenting you with both a visual and an audial experience of what Joski is all about. The three tracks on this disc are all very similar in character with heavy dynamic guitarwork paving the way for clean melodic vocals. It is pretty much the same with every new alternative rock act from their country as well as the big one across the pond (the Atlantic Ocean that is). The problem is that very few of these have anything to distinguish themselves from the pack so to say. Joski may have won many fans with their accessable brand of heavy emotional rock music but they have very little to make them stand out. Having listened to this single several times now I still can not think of anything that I will remember when I put it away. They are capable musicians but that is not all that it takes. If you are into this kind of music you might still want to check them out before judging them since many seem to be of a different opinion than me.
