REVIEW: K.A - Close-Up (demo) Self-financed, 2003
5/10
K.A - Close-Up (demo) - cover art K.A is a band from the Paris area of France that was given birth to in 1995. Since then they have worked their way towards a very aggressive and characteristic sound of their own which is evident on their new self-financed album "Close-Up" which was recorded last year. Even though I call this a demo recording (in the sense that they have paid for everything themselves without the support of a label) the release is very professional in every aspect. The production and sound quality is great, the cover art looks very good and the musicians themselves make a nice collective performance. It is difficult to describe what K.A sounds like. They label themselves as a brutal metal band and that is correct. They have the basic rhythms and riffs of a death metal band but added to this is a modern neo-industrial edge that hint a little towards Fear Factory. With all this comes vocals rooted in the hardcore underground, often with a death metal touch. There are plenty of bands choosing this path today and unfortunately the French K.A doesn't really stand out from the rest. It is a competent recording that will surely bring joy to some of you of you who have not yet grown tired of the genre but it doesn't interest me that much to be honest. Aggressive and well-played but not very thoughtful or exclusive. Stand-out tracks: "What's Your Excuse".
