REVIEW: Kabbal - Synthetically Revived Diamond Productions, 2002
7/10
Kabbal - Synthetically Revived - cover art The first band to release an album through the newly formed label Diamond Production is Kabbal, a French death metal that started out in 1999. For some reason French metal bands haven't reached any major success worldwide yet even though there are apparently some good bands down there such as Antaeus, Seth, Nightmare and Penumbra. Labels such as Season Of Mist, Adipocere Records and Osmose Productions have nonetheless put France on the metal map for real. The first band that pops to mind when listening to the debut album from Kabbal is without a doubt Morbid Angel. Death influences can also be heard and in some songs you can clearly distinguish thrashier Slayer riffing. I don't know if these guys are big Suffocation fans but "Synthetically Revived" is actually a song from that band's album "Pierced From Within" (1995). Kabbal manage to impress me slightly with their brutal and technical death metal. It is well played, well produced and the Deicide-like vocals sound very good. It lacks that little extra but it is a brutal, intense and interesting quality release worth to check out for fans of technical Florida death metal. Being such a young band Kabbal is certainly one of the most promising French metal bands at the moment.
