Kalmah is a rather old Finnish band that has been in
existence since 1992 but it wasn't until Spinefarm decided to sign them that
they had the possibility to release their debut album "Swamplord" in 2000.
With Pekka Kokko as the only remaining member from the original line-up they
have now recorded their second full-length album and the result is very
impressive. Even though it stands clear from the very first track that they
have been heavily influenced by Children Of Bodom like so many other of the
Spinefarm bands this album shows a very talented and technically skilled band.
They have come a long way during their ten years of existence and if you like
Children Of Bodom you should definitely check out this band. The first couple
of tracks are very intense and partly even tops the best of their Finnish role
models. Lots of beautiful melodies, impressive guitar solos, nice growling
vocals and a very good keyboard player makes Kalmah one of the leading Finnish
bands at the moment. Melodic death metal has been taken to a new level by
Children Of Bodom and there are a number of bands ready to follow but these
guys are probably the best ones. The album is a little short though and ends
with a Megadeth cover.
