REVIEW: Kamelot - Karma Noise Records, 2001
8.5/10
Kamelot - Karma - cover art Despite the fact that the opening riffs sound foolishly much like a Christmas Carol Kamelot has yet again created a new solid piece of American power metal. For each new release they have come to sound more and more like Luca Turilli or Rhapsody and the beautiful intro "Regalis Apertura" was even written by the magnificent producer maestro Miro. I don't know for sure if this is a good or bad thing but Kamelot is at least a band set in steady development which is far too rare these days. If every single band would improve with each new release we would see some amazing masterpieces unveiled. Unfortunately this is naturally not possible but "Karma" is a very complex musical drama where the listener is taken through beautiful vocal lines, passionate choruses and the powerful impression of a real symphony orchestra. The hyperborean oral garnishin from Roy Khan help in making this one of the few albums you really remember at the end of the year. Just like most other power metal albums it has occasional moments of boredom but these are luckily not that many. This is pure eyecandy for everyone into the soundscapes Luca Turilli or power metal in general.
