REVIEW: Kaoteon - Provenance Of Hatred (demo) Unsung Heroes Records, 2004
8/10
Kaoteon - Provenance Of Hatred (demo) - cover art Wow, a band from Lebanon. That’s even more obscure than Serbia. Just as I heard about them I had to check it out. And it was a good thing to do. The debut demo from Kaoteon is a really good surprise. Three songs of old school Death Metal with some Thrash and small Doom influences. It is a good thing to hear it. The material is varied and well played. Riffs are simple, and the rest of music too, but it sounds good and has good song structure that will keep you interested. Each song has some slow and faster parts, with some atmosphere around. The vocals are also varying which is very good. It goes from classic early nineties growl to some sick whisper, and occasionally screams. Surprising are fast drums in some parts that just sound so appealing. General impression is very positive, nothing to complain about actually (!?). The energy they deliver is obvious and is well focused so you must notice it. The sound is ok too, especially if you take in consideration wherefrom these guys come. The simple fact that these guys are playing Death Metal in Lebanon, although it is forbidden in this country, is enough to admire them. You could do yourself a favor and get this release from either Unsung Heroes or from the internet. Support new scenes!
