REVIEW: Karaboudjan - Sbrodj (EP) Relapse Records, 2001
6.5/10
Karaboudjan - Sbrodj (EP) - cover art Well, what is there to say about this album... Dan Swanö has never stopped amazing us with new and unconventional projects of every possible kind but this time I don't really know what I think about this new release. "Sbrodj" is an album almost completely instrumental with occational spoken words in Swedish taken from the well-known Tintin series from Hergé. There is nothing wrong with Tintin but this kind of psychedelic and weird music doesn't really get through to me in any way. I simply have no idea what to think about it except that it fits rather well as background music when doing something completely different. If you remember the strange bass lines from Type O Negative's "October Rust" then you know quite well what to expect from this album but don't forget to add lots of strange samples to that sound in your mind. The music itself is however rather pleasant and melodic but there are too many disturbing sound samples of the most peculiar kind that prevents if from being really good and fluent. If you like electronic and experimental noise with heavy bass lines and melodic keyboard strings then this might be something for you but it is really difficult to get into. It is also a bit unlucky to have the spoken words in Swedish but I think this is old recordings from Dan Swanö's early days in the metal scene.
