REVIEW: Karmic Jera - Zombies, Blood & Go-Go Girls Dreamcatcher Records, 2001
7.5/10
Karmic Jera - Zombies, Blood & Go-Go Girls - cover art The English band Karmic Jera is now about to release their debut album and they have kind of an unusual story behind it. They actually won their record deal with Dream Catcher Records in a contest last year that was arranged by the well-known magazine Kerrang. They claim to have been inspired by bands like Static X, White Zombie and Nine Inch Nails but I would like to add a little Rammstein to that because they have taken use of that heavy industrial sound as well on their first album. The most obvious influence is still White Zombie and perhaps this is why some reviewers have been less positive about the album. The album title doesn't really help them in that aspect either... I found them very enjoyable myself but just like Static X they tend to repeat themselves a little too much. Apart from the heavy Rammstein/Static X riffs that come and go in most tracks there are also some nice melodies to be found here and there. The vocals are not the most impressive I've heard this year but Karmic Jera has still managed to create a very nice debut album. I haven't heard that many new bands this year that impressed me at all but Karmic Jera is one of them together with Alas, The Forsaken, Elvenking, Nightshade, Falconer, Signs Of Darkness and Zyklon. They do have the capability to improve though.
