"Revenge..., is a meal best served cold." Every new Kataklysm album comes with a very nice introductional message. The Canadian blastbeat epicures have been on a winning streak ever since the release of "Epic (The Poetry Of War)" in 2001 and it's one of a handful of death metal bands which you can always rely on. Whenever there's a new Bolt Thrower, Morbid Angel or Kataklysm album you know what it will sound like but it does not matter. As long as there is only one Kataklysm I would not want them to change and so far no other band has even come close to dethroning the kings. Despite holding on to the musical foundation that they have created throughout many years of hard work there are discernable signs of renewal and a will to move forward. "In The Arms Of Devastation" does definitely sound like a Kataklysm album and nothing else so the fans do not have to worry but it is not an exact copy of previous releases. This time it feels as if they have let go of the sheer intensity slightly in order to make a few loftier and melodic but still aggressive and energetic songs. I'm not sure if this is the way to go but on the other hand the If you are a death metal fan this is the first album of 2006 that you really need to own. Why are you still sitting here then? Order it right away. Not quite as impressive as the previous masterpiece but a veeeery close call.
