It's been a while since I heard any good blues rock but luckily this changed with this album from a well-known veteran in the scene. Michael Katon released his debut back in 1985, when I was but 5 years old, but I must honestly say that I have not heard any of his releases up until now. Heavy and straight-forward old-school song writing will most likely invoke sentimental feelings in fans of the genre but is there any potential of this recording attracting younger fans? Hard to tell, really. I am very open to new influences myself but I have a feeling that this is too simple, slow and mellow for most rock and metal kids of the 21st century. Unfortunate but true. If bluesy hard rock is your cup of tea I am sure you will appreciate Katon's mix of heavy thunderous riffs, tasteful solos and rock vocals with an attitude. Even though he doesn't move outside the boundaries of the genre he has provided enough diversity to keep the listener's attention throughout the whole album. The lyrics are a bit (quite a bit actually) too cliché for my taste but the traditional song writing and a strong production make up for it. Quality and quantity combined for once.
