REVIEW: Keep Of Kalessin - Reclaim FaceFront, 2003
9.5/10
Keep Of Kalessin - Reclaim - cover art The first thing that drew my attention to this MCD was its super line-up; Attila Csihar on vocals, Frost on Drums and Obsidian C on bass and guitars. Keep of Kalessin's previous albums are standard black albums and it is KoK's first MCD after four years, with the new line-up; a line-up that can easily change a mediocre album into a great one and "Reclaim" is a real masterpiece as one may expect. This MCD is composed of five tracks of which one is instrumental and another one, "Obliterator", is taken from "Through The Times Of War"; but this time it has a better production and is re-recorded with Attila's vocals. Attila's vocals on all the four tracks are just perfect, but in the title track, "Reclaim", he renders some clean vocals, which is quite a rarity in itself. After 1349's "Liberation", this is Frost's second album in 2003 with another band as a full time member and his fast drumming on this album is just as brilliant as it is on Satyricon's albums. Obsidian C's musicianship has developed to a great extent and the music of this MCD is undoubtedly better than the previous releases of the band. Another good point about this album is its lyrics. The third track starts with "Almighty Will to Power" which is explicitly taken from Nietzsche's "Will to Power" and the overall dark mood of the lyrics completely matches the gloomy and evil atmosphere of the album.
