REVIEW: Kill The Thrill - 203 Barriers Season Of Mist, 2001
4/10
Kill The Thrill - 203 Barriers - cover art Kill The Thrill is a three-piece band from France that the label wants to market as industrial metal. If you from this description start associating to Ministry or Rammstein (which might be the purpose) you are likely to get disappointed because this band is no way near sounding like any of them. You should instead relate them to good old Nine Inch Nails but also add a heavier and more traditional metal sound. The slow, driving rhythms in their music could be compared to bands like Lacuna Coil and The Gathering although the vocals are way below the standard of these two. Nicolas Dick of Kill The Thrill changes between a raspy singing and a raspy screaming voice and unfortunately I have to admit that neither his vocals nor the music itself impresses me that much. There is nothing much happening on this album and it feels like you´re listening to the same song over and over again. Perhaps some gothic and industrial fans could find this cd interesting but if you´re mostly into metal I doubt their sound would offer you any audial pleasure. The music is not really that bad though. 203 Barriers is the kind of album you wouldn´t notice being played until the final track ends and everything is quiet again. It was recorded at the SPA Recording Studios (NY). Finally, for those who love females in metal I just want to mention that the band has a female bass player named Marylin Tognolli.
