Kinetic is a brand new Greek band that formed in the year 2002 but the members of the band have a lot of experience from the past. Here we can find the former Acid Death member Savvas Betinis on bass and vocals along with former members of the lesser known acts Brainfade and Wisdom. The four-piece have already written many songs and this self-titled mini album is a three-song sample of their creations. The music is technical and aggressive with influences ranging from progressive metal through thrash and technical death metal. The three songs on this disc are of different qualities but I like the third one best since it is the most thought through song. It is heavy, tight, aggressive, fast and complex like the other two but the song structure has been constructed with care this time. This is where Kinetic fail slightly in the other two songs. All four are capable musicians, something that you can tell easily only from listening to this album, but they need to come up with more interesting music that isn't only built on generic riffs that already have been used a thousand times before. It is not easy and it is the difficulty for every single band who want to create something memorable today. Kinetic are not at all bad though and could very well appeal to those of you who fancy technical death / thrash metal. The real judgement comes in a few years time when they have further developed an identity of their own. Let's just wait and see what happens.
