REVIEW: King Diamond - Abigal II: The Revenge Metal Blade Records, 2002
9/10
King Diamond - Abigal II: The Revenge - cover art King Diamond is the ultimate proof of the fact that you don't have to renew yourself in order to stay successful. Sure, he has developed a lot over the years, especially the voice has been improved a lot since his early years. You always know what to get from King Diamond and this is probably why the fans have been loyal to him throughout the years. The first Abigail was the second album from the band and regarded by many as their best one ever. It isn't until now, fifteen years later, that the King has dared to make a follow-up where Abigail returns to the mansion. This is probably the last King Diamond album released by Metal Blade but it's an album that fans of the band will not want to be without. Kim Bendix (the real name of King Diamond) seems to have been given a second youth and his vocals are more vivid and exciting than in a long time. The band has also been restored to an old classic line-up with Hal Patino back in the band and in addition to this they have a new, very talented drummer called Matt Thompson who usually doesn't play heavy metal. King Diamond is back, Abigail is back from the dead, what more could you ask for?
