No, Italy ain’t just power metal, heroes or dragons! The band Kink was formed in 2000 and this is their debut album entering the disks to be accepted by us, the music consumers. And to put things simple: I like this, and I think you could do that to! As you might have read in the GF93 “OSR” review I ain’t that much of a nu metal fan. But this record is really good. I can actually hear some Darkane in the music and that can’t be bad, can it!? The record consists of 14 songs which together sets a feeling of it being a concept album. Wether it actually is one I don’t know from the promo copy I have got. I think it feels like a concept album because the songs float into each other and have quite much the same touch and mood. The layers and computer effects are building up an atmosphere in a great way and all the instruments really know what they should do and don’t exaggerate it. It’s a code of being true to true metal and dislike Kink’s kind of music, but then I haven’t really heard Kink’s music before. Sure, Nickelback, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park and Papa Roach are quite well-known but there is something special with “Tsunami”. The drumming is incredibly groovy and it’s just wonderful to just let go and let the music bring you further forward. Another mood-setter is the singer Link’s versatile way of singing. He uses both a soft, gentle side and a harsh and aggressive and this in the right places making the music interesting quite much the whole time. Some of the vocal and guitar harmonies sounds like they come from the 80’s. I’m giving this debut disc a 8.5 out of 10 and I think the band will reach even higher next time.
