REVIEW: Korum - Son Of The Breed Sekhmet Records, 2002
7/10
Korum - Son Of The Breed - cover art French bands are now finally beginning to step out of the darkness and spread their noise across the world. Korum was formed in Paris in 1999 and are now releasing their debut album entitled "Son Of The Breed", featuring the cover artwork of the Austrian surreal artist Peter Gric. This French band is combining the most technical death metal you have ever heard with extreme jazz fusion and the energy of modern hardcore. If you enjoy avantgarde death metal and bands like Cynic, Atheist and Death you should be very interested in checking out Korum because they have created one of the strangest death metal albums I have heard in a very long time. Strange doesn't automatically mean good but in this case the music is also very enjoyable although they have sometimes gone a little too far with their chaotic mixture. This is a band that will make a lot of new fans during the next couple of years if only the label manages to market them well enough. A very fine first release this most certainly is and I think this is not the last we will see or hear from these four French guys.
