REVIEW: Kralizec - Origin Maquiavel Music Entertainment, 2003
7/10
Kralizec - Origin - cover art In Frank Herbert's novel Dune "the Kralizec" is the spiritual typhoon that passes through the whole universe and destroys all, especially that which has become stagnant from lack of change. Avoiding a state of stagnancy is the most important task any individual or collective has to face. In order to keep momentum and not losing ground to the competition you need to re-create and develop all the time. If you do not evolve not only will you become a boring faceless entity in the end, you will also find yourselves standing still in the same spot. If this young band manage to push forward they will become one of the brightest hopes for the future of brutal death metal I am sure. The band Kralizec was born in Québec, Canada, in 1998 and have now found a home on the Portuguese label Maquiavel Music in order to present their new album "Origin" to the world. Brutal death metal from Canada isn't exactly something new, you all know about the greatness of bands like Kataklysm and Cryptopsy. While Kralizec definitely owes a lot to the Canadian blastbeat tradition they are somewhat lighter and tend to include more early Morbid Angel influences than their aforementioned colleagues. A black metal shadow also hangs over the deadly tunes. Sometimes they slow down a little and let somewhat epic viking metal sounds enter the scene for a while. I am glad that there aren't too many of those moments on this album though as they still need some work to make them sound good. Instead it is the faster side of the band that makes most sense to me. It is not really something out of the ordinary but it is brutal, fast, tight, well played and the vocals are solid. Check out the tracks below and you will be introduced to a new quality force in the death metal field. Perhaps they should ease off on some of the keyboards next time though. Stand-out tracks: "Intro (Kralizec)", "Apatride", "Sailing To The Origin".
