It is wonderful to see that the big three German thrash metal
bands (Sodom, Kreator and Destruction) from the early 80s are still with us
now that it is 2003. Kreator started out way back in 1983 and it didn't take
long before they ended up with a record contract to release this debut album
of their's in 1985. "Endless Pain" features Kreator classics such as the
title track and "Tormentor", one of the finer thrash metal songs from the
early days with its speedy guitarwork and raw, aggressive vocals. Kreator have
not only inspired thrash metal acts but, like both Sodom and Destruction, also
plenty of black metal bands who have appreciated the primal feeling of these
early recordings that started it all for European thrash metal. Not very long
ago (well, it might have been some months...) I reviewed an album from a
Lithuanian black metal act called Dissimulation who had recorded a great cover
of "Tormentor". Kreator may have a lot to lean back on but they have shown
time and time again that they are not ready to fold yet. Band leader Mille
Petrozza clearly stands out as being one of the better extreme metal vocalists
already on this debut album and his primal screams and shrieks make this a
very energetic album that should please everyone who is into fast and
aggressive metal. One of the landmarks in the history of extreme metal.
Stand-out tracks: "Endless Pain", "Tormentor", "Son Of
Evil".
