REVIEW: Kreator - Endorama Drakkar Records, 1999
7/10
Kreator - Endorama - cover art This is the first release from Drakkar Records, a new sublabel of BMG Entertainment. Kreator plays traditional thrash metal that is very close to Megadeth in their Youthanasia/Cryptic Writings days, both musically, lyrically and vocally. Megadeth seems to have strayed a little from their old thrashy style but Kreator is perhaps here to take the throne from them. However, Kreator doesn´t quite reach up to the Megadeth quality yet. Mille Petrozza does his best with his vocals but it is not easy to beat the great Dave Mustaine. Petrozza´s vocals are also a little darker and not as clean as Mustaine´s. Nice vocal lines, fine guitarwork and catchy melodies makes this a rather nice album altogether. There are a couple of tracks that really sticks out from the rest and that is "Chosen Few" and "Everlasting Flame". These are no doubt the best songs on the album. Unfortunately the rest of the album is catchy but still a little too plain and simple for it´s own good and sounds too much 80's I think. Except for a couple of beautiful piano intros there is the same thrashy sound all the way through and in the end you get a little bored with it. It is still a very nice production of well-composed and well-performed music. This is an album that will surprise no-one but for all you thrash metal fans out there "Endorama" might be something to check out. I also want to mention that Tilo Wolff from Lacrimosa did some guest vocals on the "Endorama" track. The album was recorded at Powerplay and Hithead Studios, Switzerland, and Principal Studios, Germany, between October 26th 1998 and January 18th 1999, recorded and engineered by Jörg Steinfadt, Roland Kupferschmied, Gudrun Laos and Britta Kühlmann, assisted by Dawo. It was mixed by Ronald Prent at Wisseloord Hilversum, Holland, assisted by Hendrik Ostrak and mastered by Rene Schardt at Wisseloord Mastering Suite. Orchestral arrangements for "Everlasting Flame" and entry were done by Christian Wolf, additional programming by Roland Kupferschmied.
