REVIEW: Kreator - Flag Of Hate Noise Records, 1986
8/10
Kreator - Flag Of Hate - cover art This fine little EP has one of the greatest thrash songs ever put to tape / vinyl / CD... and that song is "Awakening The Gods". Yes, this song rules. Is it worth getting just this song? HELL, YES!!! One of the coolest intros ever is in this song, it's stuffed silly with delicious thrash riffs and at over 7 minutes long... it never gets boring. You'll be too busy salivating over all those great riffs! Then you'll want to hear them again, and again, and again, and next thing you know, you can't LIVE without hearing this song at least five times a day! Well... maybe not. But i'm sure you get my point. But how are the other songs, you say? Well, I'll tell you. "Flag Of Hate" is a re-make of the song with the same name from their debut album "Endless Pain". It's your standard pummeling thrasher, nothing too special, but it does the trick. The intro riff is mighty nice, as well. But this is the weakest song here. And "Take Their Lives" is another solid thrasher, except it might need a little shortening. It certainly wouldn't hurt. Yeah, it's a bit overlong (6:27), but it doesn't necessarily hurt the overall quality of the song, it's just not quite as strong as "Awakening The Gods". So, whether you get this EP on its own, with the "Endless Pain" album, or with the "Pleasure To Kill" album, where it's listed as bonus tracks, either way, you should get this any way you can, just for "Awakening The Gods". And might I suggest getting the "Pleasure To Kill" / "Flag Of Hate" combo, that way you get one awesome album with two extra good songs and one extra fucking great song.
