REVIEW: Krieg - Destruction Ritual Red Stream, 2001
6/10
Krieg - Destruction Ritual - cover art If there is a possibility for nihilism and misanthropy to exist side by side then this is what Krieg has managed to create with their first real full-length release "Destruction Ritual". As they so eloquently put it themselves: "Krieg supports the war against you!". If you are into raw, minimalistic black metal with some really crazy tortured vocals then Krieg is the band for you. The music isn't the most exciting one around but I do still find Krieg a little fascinating, mainly because of the raw, stripped-down atmosphere that they have been able to create by using very simple means. I wouldn't think twice before choosing Darkthrone in front of this release either but if you are into this kind of music it could be something for you in here. Krieg is very closely linked to the bands Judas Iscariot and Weltmacht as well. American black metal do have some promising new names and Krieg is one of those who have been most lauded lately.
