REVIEW: Kryoburn - Enigmatic Existence Continental Entertainment, 2005
6.5/10
Kryoburn - Enigmatic Existence - cover art Kryoburn is a young American band from the small town of Carlsbad, New Mexico, consisting of brothers Les and Chris Huber, Todd Brasher and Derrick Richards. Their debut album "Enigmatic Existence" pummels out the aggression of a young band from beginning to end. Unfortunately the production from Eddy Garcia (Ministry, Pissing Razors) makes the album sound a little stiff and sterile. Other than that Kryoburn make a decent attempt mixing the controlled chaos of Strapping Young Lad with the industrial concrete wall of Fear Factory and raging fury of early Pantera.

Listing role models and influences is often easier than judging the quality of the final product. The more you listen to Kryoburn the more it becomes evident that they are a product of the rising metalcore scene but they have revitalized the sound by adding a touch of Fear Factory's industrial rhythms. Clean, below average, emo vocals are used freely next to anguished deathcore growls. The concept idea is interesting and I am sure we will see and hear more from Kryoburn in the future. Right now their songs sound far too similar though and make you think of soap operas and American talkshows where one episode has nothing to offer compared to the previous one.

Kryoburn have planted a seed and only the future will tell if it is to grow further into a majestic tree. If aggression is your melody and you hold both modern metalcore bands and Fear Factory high, "Enigmatic Existence" might fit your musical taste.
