REVIEW: Lacrimas Profundere - Burning: A Wish Napalm Records, 2001
6.5/10
Lacrimas Profundere - Burning: A Wish - cover art Lacrimas Profundere are back again with their third full-length album. Having suffered several line-up changes over the years Oliver Schmid has now recruited ex-Darkseed members Willi Wurm and Ricco to fill out the missing pieces. Hopefully they have now found a more solid line-up that will last for the future. Musically the band can be described as doom metal meets the gothic world. The vocalist Christopher has left most of the growling behind and now uses mainly clean vocals. At times they actually sound a little bit like the Swedish band Katatonia with the flow they had on "Tonight´s Decision" but without the warm soothing vocals. Christopher´s vocals are more of the spoken kind, deep and disturbing as taken from the gothic roots. Slow, driving rhythms show the doom influence and sporadic pianos and harps makes it a little more emotional but except for a few great choruses and nice melancholic melodies this album doesn´t have that much to offer unless you´re a diehard fan of the band. It does have good moments with nice piano tunes and beautiful femalve vocals but altogether it´s a bit too insipid to leave any persistent memories behind.
